Robert Lewis - Director
Mr. Robert D Lewis is the President of San Diego Chapter 12, Montford Point Marine Association. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1965. He served as a 2nd Marine Division Bandsman. During his service in Vietnam in 1968 he was a member of the 1st and 2nd Battalion, 13th Marine Regiment with the 1st Marine Divisions, I Corps.
Robert received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Norfolk State University and a Degree in Nursing. Worked in the surgical units, Psychiatry, and PACU. He recently retired from the V.A. San Diego Healthcare System as a Registered Nurse after 29 ½ years in 2012. Working in the Patient Education Department at the V.A. La Jolla, California where he served as an educator, Veterans advocate and, assisting veterans with disability claims via DAV and the County Veterans Service Office.
He is a Life Member of the Marine Corps League, San Diego Bulldog Det. 885, and a Past Commandant, 2007-2009. He is a Life Member of the Jewish War Veterans Harry Appleman Post 185 and several veteran organizations locally and throughout the nation. His involvement in these organizations has resulted in him receiving numerous accolades and personal awards. Multiple awards from the National Veterans Creative Arts Festivals, The Del Mar Fair and, the PVA Art Show.
Robert is the Past National Veterans Affairs Officer for the National Montford point Marine Assn, Inc. from 2012-2019. Robert currently volunteers as a Docent at MCRD Command Museum and is a Life Member of the MCRD Museum Foundation.

Our Board of Directors come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing unites them all, a passion for preserving and perpetuating the history of the United States Marine Corps. Many who serve on our Board have a strong connection with the Marine Corps Recruit Depot having drilled on the grinder, been stationed aboard the Depot, or felt the local impact of Marines in San Diego.
