Mr. Cory M. Cunningham - Financial Officer BOD

Cory Cunningham PhotoCory Cunningham is the President and founder of Sustainable Industries (SusInd). SusInd provides critical, senior leadership for client companies to aid in growth and restructuring while maintaining profitability on complex projects. SusInd is also a proven prime contractor for US and international governments contracts in energy, water, and fuel sectors. Mr. Cunningham concurrently reached the rank of Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves and accumulated 34 years of military service with multiple combat and peacetime deployments.

Leading SusInd, Mr. Cunningham has executed over $50MM in international water filtration contracts with US and Iraqi partners. These contracts included design, manufacturing, and delivery of over 730 solar powered water systems to the Iraq Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works to provide potable water for over 2.1 million Iraqis. The execution of these contracts established SusInd and partners as the world leaders in off-grid, solar powered water filtration systems. Upon completion of these contracts, SusInd evolved to provide related energy and water components and assemblies to the U.S. federal government. Since 2009, SusInd has completed $3MM in federal contracts and is an approved manufacturer for the Defense Logistics Agency. In addition to prime contracts, SusInd has provided product development, representation, distribution, installation, and project management for public and private companies resulting in the execution of $10MM in government and commercial contracts.

Prior to founding Sustainable Industries, Mr. Cunningham navigated successful careers in real estate and the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps he founded and operated a real estate investment group, where he profitably acquired, managed, and sold single and multi-family properties. After serving as an active-duty Marine, Mr. Cunningham directed corporate and property operations for a $1.1 billion / 9.4 million square foot private equity real estate portfolio until founding Sustainable Industries. Mr. Cunningham has over 25 years’ experience in real estate and construction.

In addition to business ventures, Col Cunningham served a full Marine Corps career. He began his Marine Corps career in 1989 as an enlisted combat engineer and was quickly selected for officer accession. As a commissioned officer on active- duty he served as a CH-53E helicopter pilot, with concurrent management duties in training, logistics and aviation maintenance. He has deployed worldwide, to include three combat tours supporting Iraq and Afghanistan, receiving two Air Medals for over 200 hours in combat air missions. In 2020, Col Cunningham was selected as Commanding Officer of MATSG-42 where he led headquarters staff and a cadre of 85 reserve instructor pilots supporting all Marine Corps Aviation training pipelines. Upon completion of command, he was requested to serve as the Chief of Staff (Reserve), for Third Aircraft Wing until retirement in June 2023.

Col Cunningham is a LEED Accredited Professional, a licensed General Contractor (CSLB#1077829), a commercial
rated rotary and multi-engine pilot and was recognized as a 2011 Top Influential in San Diego Defense Industry. Mr. Cunningham holds a Bachelors of Science in Construction Engineering Management from Oregon State University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles. He serves on the Executive Committee for the MCRD Historical Foundation and resides in Pacific Beach with his wife Melissa.
